About my work

The influence of past eras on current culture is a pervasive theme in my project, as I seek to explore the impact of nostalgia and the cultural artefacts of the past on our present experiences. Overall, my project aims to provide a commentary on the complex relationship between nostalgia, progress, and contemporary culture in the UK.

The work captures both a sombre and cartoonish nature, blending a deep sadness with a light-hearted parody. Inspired by the meta-modernist movement, the work aims to caricature, while still maintaining empathy for the character's struggles. Little snippets of television, music and fashion references bleed into the work. Further emphasizing the character's immersion in a culture of distraction and dissatisfaction. Overall, the work is a poignant yet humorous reflection on the struggles of modern life and the pervasive influence of media on our daily experiences.

My practice focuses primarily on figurative sculpture. Throughout this time, my work has evolved from a curiosity about the medium- to a vehicle for satire and ultimately to a means of expressing empathy.

The aim within my art practice is to create a caricature figure of a lost soul who’s life has past him by. The figures also blur the line of vulgar and uncomfortable to sad and pathetic.
